About Mediator

Mediators provide the ability for Network Managers to "see" outside the network and monitor all services and environmental settings that can effect the networks performance and availability using standard Network Management Solutions.

Mediator can monitor, manage and advise the status of many non networked devices using standard sensors and switches.

The Mediator uses existing network infrastructure to monitor and report on environmental and other inputs both locally and centrally using industry standard protocols and devices.

Mediator has been accepted into the Federal governments Australian Technology Showcase (ATS).

Mediator is currently incorporated in the distributed networks of organisations such as Telstra, Department of Defence, MBF, PowerTel, ACI Pilkington, Malaysia Telekom, Economic Development Board Singapore, WorkCover QLD and NSW Fire Brigade.

Customer Benefits

  • Centralised management and control
  • Integrates with existing monitoring solutions or stands alone
  • Being aware of events that could affect operations
  • Early warning provides greater time to rectify / react limiting impacts on network
  • Pro Active management
  • Able to identify potential issues before they become critical
  • Reduce engineering support
  • Automates all aspects of external information gathering
  • SLA management

Common Mediators features

Mediators support the following devices:

  • Ethernet
  • Digital Inputs and outputs
  • Analogue Inputs
  • Serial Port
  • SNMP Based
  • E-mail advisory of alarms
  • Telnet Interface
  • Web based monitoring of Inputs
  • User defined alarm points
  • Optional PSTN Modem for 'out-of-band' management

Mediator Monitoring & Reporting

Mediators are used to monitor and report on the following:

  • Temperature and humidity (equipment and machinery rooms)
  • Power availability - both Mains and UPS
  • Room and/or cabinet access
  • Status of non networked equipment such as air conditioners
  • Status of security systems
  • Control networked and non networked equipment

Mediator Configuration

Mediators are able to be configured to:

  • Send an alarm on a change of state or preset thresholds
  • Communicate with existing network monitoring solutions (Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP based))
  • Send email and/or SMS (Short Messaging Service) advice of status
  • Use existing Ethernet, PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) or GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) data networks for communication
  • Track historic data and generate graphs in real time showing trends using bundled utilities

Mediator Value

  • Allows seamless monitoring of remote sites using existing infrastructure
  • Integrates with Industry leading network monitoring software such as OpenView, Unicenter and Tivoli or stands alone
  • Can integrate with non networked devices such as alarm systems to report status centrally
  • Advises of potential problems before they impact on network performance saving time and money
  • Allows secure remote control of selected equipment when normal access is not possible
  • Local product with local support and ability to be customised to meet requirements
  • Package is ready to run out of the box (pre wired just plug-in, configure and use)

Mediator Interface Requirements

Any device which meets the following electrical specifications,

  • Digital: dry contact
  • Analogue (Current Loop): 4-20mA and 0-24v
  • Serial: Supported ASCII data streams and Megatech UPS protocol

Mediator Expansion Capabilities

Each Serial port can be expanded via RS-485 to support multiple input or output devices (i-DAMS)

  • Digital Input and output
  • Analogue Input

Typical Implementations

  • Any Organization with an IP based data network
  • Any Organisation with Centralised Network monitoring using SNMP
  • Organisations with high value data networks such as:
  • Banks
  • ISP's
  • Telco's
  • Multi Nationals
  • Government (Defence)
  • Utilities companies (Power, Transport)

Web Interface, small footprint, bundled sensors
  • true stand alone capability as well as full SNMP
  • Quick deployment
  • Centralised Management via WEB or MedConf (Mediator Configuration) Utility
Rack mountable multiple ports

Note: the i-300 and i-400 have expansion modules that significantly expand the number of connections.

Range of expansion modules and sensors / devices available.
